Obtaining a Work Licence after a drink driving charge

9th April 2018

A “work licence” is a restricted licence which the Court may order upon an application to the Court by a person charged with a drink driving offence, in certain circumstances.

The application to the Court and the Order must be made before the person is convicted of the drink driving offence.

An Order for a Restricted Licence will normally only be made if the person charged with the drink driving offence can establish to the Court’s satisfaction that the person will suffer financial hardship if that person does not hold a driver’s licence for a period of time.

Financial hardship would normally occur if the person charged with the drink driving offence were to lose their job because they were unable to drive.

A restricted licence will normally allow a person to drive for certain periods and generally for work purposes only (including travel to and from work).
